Fujhong Street, which leads straight to Tainan Confucian temple and Pan-kung stone gate, is an important street in Confucian temple historic district. However, due to the broadening construction, the historic characters of the street space had been destroyed. In recent years, when the professional planners and local residents intended to figure out the identity of Fujhong Street by its historical background, neither of them understood well about the development and the transformation of this street.
By tracing the related documents and interviewing with the residents, this thesis interprets the transformation process of the historic street from Thiāu-á-hâng Street to Fujhong Street in a chronological order, including Chin Dynasty period (1720-1895), Japanese governed period (1895-1945) and after Japanese governed period until 2006 (1945-2006).
The result shows that Fujhong Street highly lapped over Thiāu-á-hâng Street, while the historic characters of the street have been greatly transformed during the time processes. In the transformation process, urban planning and the social culture were the most significant factors, what made the historic street interact with its surroundings.
