ABSTRACT
This study explored the role and significance that leisure activities have in the lives of Vietnamese immigrant women in Taiwan. A quantitative research method was adopted for this study to investigate the relationships between the constructs and variables. The study utilized a questionnaire that focused on specific socio-demographic characteristics of participants. Particular attention was also paid to the perception of constraints in the immigrant women daily leisure activities that were categorized into three groups: intrapersonal, interpersonal, and structural constraints. At the same time, their satisfaction yielded from leisure activities was addressed. This research applied the Leisure Satisfaction Scale developed by Beard and Ragheb (1980), providing measurement standards for determining leisure satisfaction. And finally, the study also examined the perception of Vietnamese immigrant women of life satisfaction of overall which was based on six dimensions of life satisfaction (Mahnaz Kousha and Navid Mohseni, 1996).
A sample of 400 Vietnamese marriage immigrants was recruited in Tainan areas, the south of Taiwan. Pearson correlations and a series of regression analyses were conducted using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 15.0 to test seven hypotheses. The results indicated that Vietnamese immigrant women have faced a great deal of constraints in their leisure time. However, this research found that Vietnamese brides have high satisfaction of leisure activities and life in Taiwan as the whole.
