ABSTRACT Trial and error method is the
common method usedfor the reinforced concrete column design.
Theprocedure used in this method is quite complicated,therefore
it is not suitable for the computeralgorithm. Another approach
is used in this study to solve this problem. Mathematical
equations were first derived by thereinforced concrete basic
assumptions. Then thenumerical bisection method was used to find
thelocation of neutral axis. Reinforced area can beobtained
accordingly. A program was developed in this study also.
Thefirst part can read the ETABS force output fileautomatically.
Then the models developed in thisstudy were used to design
reinforcement for eachcolumn. The obtained results were compared
to theresults obtained from CONKER program. The comparison shows
that the models developed in this study is more accurate and
economical.
