物件導向資料庫技術上一重要的優點為: 可支援在information sea 中，對object
s 作navigahon 。一些先進的應用，如: geographic infomation systems (GIS)
、multimedia database systems 及CAD/CAM databases 在實作上，皆大量採用物
件導向資料庫技術來實踐。由於，在整個database上。資料量相當大，為方便在in
fomahon sea 上作navigation，為所objects 的paths 建index ，對整個系統的pe
rfomance會有顯著的提昇。
由於，過去對OODB上建index 的相關研究皆無法有效率支援multiple predicates
的queries 。因此在本論文中，我們提出一個方法能夠真正對multlple predlcate
s 的queries 作到快速的retrieval 。我們利用grid file 來支援OODB上的multid
imensional path index 。我們真正作到對object paths作index ，而且是一次對
多個attributes作index 。有別以往的研究，只能對class path上一個attrlbutes
建index ，並且，我們可讓indexed attributes落在class path中任一class 上。
如此才能對multiple predicates 的queries 作到快速的存取。
