A Study of Elementary School Teachers’ Type-A Personality,job stress,and life satisfaction . Lin Yi-Shing Department of Family Education National Chiayi University Abstract The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships among background variables,type-A personality traits,job stress, and life satisfaction of elementary school teacher.The study uses the questionnaire approach.The 811 subjects are selected from public elementary school teachers in Tainan County,Tainan City,Kao-Hsiung County,and Kao-Hsiung City.The analysis was conducted on the “ Chiness individual A-type scale ”and the“teacher work pressure questionnaire”and the“life satisfaction of elementary school teacher questionnaire”,which has been designed by the writer.The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis , so as to testify the thesis. The design and its application in the study lead to the following significant findings: 1. The A-type personality traits and over-all job stress on the elementary school teachers is medium in strength. 2. The satisfaction of life of elementary school teachers are over the average. 3. There were significant difference in the variables of teachers’ gender,record of formal schooling,living locality, family type,and the occupation of their spouse on life satisfaction . 4. A correlation was noted between A-type personality traits and some parts of life satisfaction . 5. The higher job stress , the lower well-being teachers have. 6. The teachers’ life satisfaction could be predicted by their background variables, A-type personality traits,and job stress .
