The International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) provides scholarships to foreign students from friendly countries, in development-related fields of study. It is stringent that research be carried out to evaluate ICDF’s meeting of its goals and missions –to provide students with valuable knowledge in key development areas.
The purpose of this paper was to assess the career track of ICDF scholarship graduates pre and post studies and evaluate their level of satisfaction with the degree obtained in Taiwan, their studies and current employment. A self-made questionnaire (Cronbach alpha=. 885) was sent out by ICDF and n=87 recipients responded. Descriptive statistics revealed that graduate ICDF scholarship recipients reported high levels of satisfaction ( at p<.05) with their former studies, Taiwan, ICDF as well as their current employment as well as for graduates with past working experience, for those aged under 25, and for graduates of Business schools..Twenty five year olds reported the most difficulty in finding work upon completion of studies despite their being satisfied with above factors. Finally, if their degree resulted in increased income, promotion, or a change of career to a higher profile organization, the level of their satisfaction with Taiwan, with ICDF and with their degree all increase substantially. Therefore, from the viewpoints of past scholarship recipients, ICDF was successful in providing students with the knowledge and tools needed to return to their countries of origin and contribute to the development of their economies.
