The study was designed to compare the motorcyclist riding alone with those riding jointly in traffic injuries. The study also did a street photo survey to understand the proportion of single riding vehicles and joint riding vehicles among motorcycles on the road, and the percentage of helmet use. Injured subjects due to motorcycle traffic accidents were chosen from six hospitals* emergency room records for " Experimental Study of Recordng Motor Vehicle Injury*s External Causes". Telephone interviews were made to collect these patients* personal data, helmet use , riding motorcycle alone or jointly, type of the motorcycle, and the speed at crashes. Injury data were taken directly from hospital records. Result: 1. The ratio of motorcyclists who rode alone to those who rode jointly on the road was 2.226:1, but the same type of ratio for injured motorcyclists found in emergency room was 4.97:1. Single riders seems to have higher chance to get injured.2. The proportion of motorcyclists wearing helmets for single riders, drivers of joint riders, and passengers were 30.6%, 14.5% and 4.5% respectively. 1. Patients of single riders and of joint riders were not different in injured location and the severity of injuries. 2. Sex, helmet use, driver*s license, type of the motorcycle and the speed at crash were related to injured location and the severity of injuries.3. After controled for sex, age, helmet use , driver*s license, type of the motorcycle and the speed at crash, there was no evidence to show the difference between motorcyclists riding alone and those riding jointly in injured location and the severity of injuries.
