Abstract The study aims to investigate the participating motivation and organizational commitment of directing traffic volunteers. This study used the questionnaire survey method to analyze the relationships between their participating motivation and organizational commitment, and lead to concrete recommendations to school volunteer organization. Based on the findings, the maximum motivation of directing traffic volunteers is altruistic motives, and the organizational commitment is value identification. According to the different background and participating motivation of directing traffic volunteers, the conclusions are: (1) Volunteers who graduated from junior high school have higher self-growth motivation than volunteers who graduated from elementary school. Those volunteers who participating more voluntary services a week, they had higher self-growth, altruistic motives, interpersonal influence factors and voluntary services participating motivation than others. (2) The more voluntary services experiences people gain, they have higher self-growth factor, altruistic motives, social relations factor and voluntary services participating motivation. Those people who is engaged in agriculture, industry and commerce, their self-growth motivation is higher than self-employed volunteers. (3) There are children of relatives and friends studying in school. Then volunteers in self-growth factor, interpersonal influence factors and voluntary services participating motivation could be more stronger. According to the different background and organization commitment of directing traffic volunteers, the conclusions are: (1) Those volunteers who participating more voluntary services a week, they had higher willingness of continuous service than others. (2) The more voluntary services experiences people have, the stronger sense of responsibilities and organizational commitment people learn. According to the relationship between participating motivation and organizational commitment of volunteers, the conclusions are: (1) The relationships between participating motivation and organizational commitment has lower relationship and there are not significant differences with the sense of responsibilities. (2) There are lower positive relationship between participating motivation and willingness of continuous service and middle positive relationship between participating motivation and willingness of continuous service.
