棲地的破碎化已被證實是造成區域物種滅絕的主要原因之一。因此，除了劃設保護區進行物種保育外，為能增加物種棲地連結性來達成物種多樣性保育的功能，規劃生態廊道也成為一個重要議題。廊道除了可以提供物種遷移時所需的食物來源、安全的庇護空間外，並可增加生物族群間基因交流及避免區域性的物種滅絕。
廊道分析是希望確認出區域內動物在各棲地環境區域內設置廊道潛在可能性。我們利用動物通過棲地時的危險度(risk)或安全性(security)，或是動物對食物可利用性(food availability)的不同反應，作為通過每個資料元所需付出的成本值。透過原本是運輸管理上發展出來的最小成本路徑分析方法，來進行廊道分析。
本研究旨在探討在兩個國家公園間劃設生態廊道的可能性。因此挑選雜食性的台灣黑熊及草食性的台灣長鬃山羊為目標物種，利用物種對於兩個棲地因子（棲地適宜度、邊際密度效應）及人為干擾因子（道路加權密度、建物密度）的反應強弱，製作成本曲面圖。經最小成本路徑分析模組推估，於有勝溪流域設置生態廊道應較為可行。當然，預測的結果仍需再以動物調查及棲地需求分析，進一步修正廊道各個模組因子的參數設定，作為未來實際保育廊道經營管理的參考。

Habitat fragmentation is one of the main causes of the extinction of many species. Other than establishment of preservation area for wildlife conservation, ecological corridors which provide connectivity between isolated habitats has also been considered as an important remedy to reduce the impacts of habitat fragmentation. Ecological corridors not only provide routes for migration, food resources, and safe shelter for wildlife, but also enhance gene exchange between otherwise isolated populations such that might reduce the risk of species extinction in a regional scale. Since requirements among different species are different, design of ecological corridor will also be species specific. It is suggested that carefully analysis of the proposed corridor should be carried to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed corridor before its implement.
The feasibility of a corridor establishment between Taroko and Shei-Pa National Parks was analyzed using the Least-Cost Path Analysis. Least-Cost Path analysis, originally developed for transportation management, is one of the most popular methods and can be easily performed with the framework of GIS database. One omnivore, the Taiwan Black Bear and an herbivore, Taiwan Serow, were chosen as the target species for the proposed ecological corridors. Functional requirements of habitat for these two species, expressed as habitat suitability and marginal density efficiency, and factors reflecting human disturbances such as the weighted road density and buildup density, were used in the calculation of a cost surface for Least Cost Analysis. The analysis shows that the possible ecological corridor is located in the Yu-Sheng Creek watershed. This study demonstrated that Least-Cost-Analysis technique is an effective approach in designing of ecological corridor. However, detail investigations of habitat requirements of these two target species are needed in order to justify the parameterization used in this study.
