本論文以心理分析法探討大亨小傳中黛西自我中心性格. 前言首先介紹作者生平及背景, 之後是我的研就目的及方法. 第一章先從不同的角度為自我中心下定義, 接著把黛西自我中心性格的原因分為三類: 社會環境, 家庭影響, 及個人因素. 此外, 費茲傑羅的人物塑造亦含蓋於此章. 第二章除了分析黛西自我中心對自己和他人的影響之外, 此作品之架構亦在探討之列. 第三章以黛西自我中心性格為出發點, 闡述二零年代美國之社會問題, 分為三部份: 社會墮落, 社會階級, 及自我實現等問題. 結論針對此小說中之主題及文字技巧作概括之檢視.

This thesis is a psychoanalytic study of Daisy's egoistic personality in The Great Gatsby, one of the greatest American novels in the twentieth century. Introduction first shows the life and background of the author, Fitzgerald, thenmy purpose and approach of the study. Chapter one defines egoism and egotismfrom different viewpoints first, and then classifies the causes of Daisy's egoism in three categories: social circumstances, family influences, and personal factors. In addition, Fitzgerald's art in characterization is also included. Chapter two analyzes the effects and consequences of Daisy's egoisticpersonality on herself and others. Besides, the structure of this work is alsocovered. Chapter three takes Daisy's egoism as a departure to illustrate thesocial problems during the twenties in America, which are divided into threeparts: the problem of social degeneration, the question of social status andsocial climbing, and the issue of self-realization. Conclusion is a general review of theme and the literary techniques displayed in this novel.
