The accident of mobile cranes touching overhead power lines is one of the main causes for worker injuries. A touching power-line alarm system has been developed for avoiding this kind of accidents. In this research, we design an alarm system with a digital function for setting detection coverage. Develop methods to calibrate and test the alarm function of the system. Evaluate possible outdoor interferences to the system. Design battery power monitoring and saving circuits. Also, test the alarm system both in laboratory and in outside field so that the performance of the alarm system may be improved and verified. Using the touching power-line alarm system, the operators of the mobile cranes may effectively prevent the cranes from touching the power lines, and the operators and other workers cando their jobs more safely. Besides, the line-to-ground faults of the transmission/distribution system caused by the touching of the power lines can be avoided.
