Choosing a college major is an important decision for senior -high students. It won''''t only effect the college life, but also their career development.It may as well infuence the progress of the society.Thus,this is designed to examine the decision-making process and come up some suggestions. The college choice process, which is "Three-Phase Process" by Hossler and Gallagher, includes①the Predisposition Phase; ②the Search Phase; ③the Choice Phase.This research examined the pro- cess of the students from 6 senior-high schools and the freemen of 3 colleges in Kaohsiung. 1037 students completed the survey and 8 were interviewed. The results are ① the Predisposition Phase happened before they entered senior-high school, the Search Phase during the years in senior-high school, and the Choice Phase was after graduation;②the school guidance center was the main information resource, but there were not many students having asked the gui- dance teachers for help; ③ the significant others were the main information providers;④ the factors that infuenced the decision were personal interest and ability; ⑤most of senior-high school had the intention , but they were still not sure which one to go to; ⑥ there were some differences among the students with different backgroung variables in their college choosing process. According to the results and discussion of this research, there are suggestions for helping senior-high school students choose their college major and for the researches that may be held in the future.
