XAD-2 adsorbent has many advantages including high selectivity, fast speed of extraction, need of less solvent and greater atability of adsorbed materials. Gas Chromatography(GC) has high sensitivity, reproducibility and resolution. Therefore, the research chose XAD-2 adsorbent to extract the carcinogenic pollutants of Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons(PAHs) from different water samples and to indentify them by the use of GC. Among several commonly used nonpolar solvent, dichloromethane was found to be the best desorbing solvent. It was also found that an eluting flow rate of 30 ml/min was the most efficient one. Applying the internal standard method with the help of retention index of each compound, we achieved a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the different PAHs through the On- column Injection in GC and GC/MS. Finally through using the same method we were able to analze the waters of Da-Han stream. We found that Fu-Chou bridge had Naphthalene 0.26 ± 0.03 ppb and Phenanthrene 0.64 ± 0.03 ppb;Ta-Han bridge had Naphthalene 2.64 ± 0.15 ppb and Anthracene 3.42 ± 0.20 ppb.
