Researchers of customer satisfaction have often suggested that performance of product would likely affect customer satisfaction. However, product innovation as a research field to investigate customer value along with customer satisfaction has not been much explored. As Taiwanese companies of electronics industry has branded and launched innovated notebooks worldwide, the aim of this qualitative study investigated the relationship between Taiwanese OBM’s rationales of notebook innovation and customer value, and the relationship between OBM’s notebook innovation and customer satisfaction. This study involved a founder and a global marketing director in a face-to-face and a telephone interview for providing their rationales of product innovation, especially for notebook. Subsequently, six notebook customers aged from 20 to 30 years old participated in the in-depth interviews to further understand their perceived performance, customer and customer satisfaction in product innovation. Results of this study firstly revealed that not every kind of innovation could lead to customer value as some innovation failed to meet customer’s needs. This could probably be reflected the marketing director’s narration that financial crisis led to a cost-leadership for minor technology on notebooks, which resulted in less customer value. Secondly, although the product was innovative in OBM, product innovation was not necessary to provide positive customer satisfaction, however; as customer value existed, it led to positive customer satisfaction. To conclude, this study may be of importance in providing Taiwanese OBM with a better understanding of how product innovation affected the customer satisfaction.
