This study builds a general model to describe the operation of rice drying cen ter. The model can be used for future planning design of a more efficient an d economic drying center.The operation of a drying center can be described as a network. Series of facilities such as bucket elevators and conveyors can be considered as one facility to simplify the simulation. The simulation progra m is coded with discrete event method by C++ programming language. The progra m itself is highly modularized with clearly defined system and operation routi nes, and can be easily modified to fit different drying center configurations .The Simulation based on the Fong-yuan drying center showed following results. Daily maximum drying capacity of a drying center with once-over drying metho d is roughly equal to the total dryer''s capacity of drying center. In the ran ge of dryer capacity from 84 tons to 124 tons, the increasing daily maximum dr ying capacity by using the two-stage drying method is 25%-41% with constant dr ying rate(0.7%w.b./h) and 50%-61% with step decreasing drying rate(1.0-0.55%w. b./h).
