現今多媒體資訊已成為網際網路上的主流,許多網路上的活動與多媒體資訊息息相關,例如人們可在線上觀看即時的球賽,聽網路廣播,開視訊會議,還有網路教學也朝多媒體教材內容發展,然而對於日益膨脹的多媒體資訊卻缺乏一個可管理查詢的管道,所以我們建構一個XML多媒體資料庫系統,提供可管理和查詢多媒體資訊的介面。藉由XML的特性我們可以表達記錄多媒體資訊的內容,然而XML的查詢效能並不理想,所以我們將資料儲存在關聯式的資料庫內以提高效能。在資料儲存方面是以XML-DBMS為基礎將XML文件的內容轉換至關聯式資料庫,並針對元素間的關係、資料的來源以及關聯式資料庫保留字的問題加以改善。在查詢資料方面我們設計了XML Query Format來做查詢,並利用Relation-Indexing Table檢驗Query中的元素關係,以避免大量無效的查詢動作。最後我們以XML多媒體資料庫結合WMCPS(Web-based Multimedia Courseware Presentation System)的多媒體播放系統可以建構一個網路教學的多媒體課程教材之查詢播放系統。

Today multimedia information has already become the trunk stream of internet. Most internet activities such as online real-time ball game, internet broadcasting, video conference and e-Learning are closely linked to multimedia information. However, we don’t have a system to manage and query the multimedia information which is quickly increasing. To support an interface which can manage and query the multimedia information, we build a XML Multimedia Database System. XML documents can record multimedia information, but the performance of querying XML documents is not good enough. To enhance the performance of querying, we store data in relational database system. The translation between XML documents and relational database is based on XML-DBMS, and we improve the problems of XML-DBMS, e.g. the relations of elements, data source and the reserved words of relational database. We also design XML Query Format for querying. To avoid ineffectual query, we use Relation-Indexing Table for checking the relations of elements in XML Query Format. Finally we integrate XML Multimedia Database System with WMCPS (Web-based Multimedia Courseware Presentation System) which is a multimedia presentation system to construct an e-Learning Multimedia Courseware Querying and Presentation System.
