This thesis presents two approaches to increase the antenna's bandwidth of conventional aperture coupled microstrip antenna structure. One is coplanar patches with one aperture coupled to microstrip line, the other is series-fed patches with apertures coupled to microstrip line. Both configurations are analyzed using an integral equation technique solved in spectral domain with the Galerkin method of moments. New numerically efficient methods are applied to expediate the calculations. Experimental data are shown to be in be good agreement with the calculated results. The effect of varying geometric parameters of the structure is discussed with a goal of designing wide-band microstrip antenna.
