Dictionaries came into existence not much longer after written word, and all dictionaries thereafter, paper or electronic alike, are all used in the same fashion. Whether being used for foreign language learning or comprehension in one’s native tongue, words are looked up one at a time. Due to the nature of dictionaries, users have been bound by these limitations, that is, until the asynchronous dictionary was conceived. This paper examines a new, innovative method for looking up words found in e-texts, and the results demonstrate that when compared to traditional dictionary use, it is more valuable and efficient. What this new system can do for learners of foreign language is to make the task of looking up words simpler and more effective. Furthermore, additional features including vocabulary list and RSS feed content are implemented to not only support mobile devices but enhance learning results.
