本篇論文所提出人臉擷取的方法,其目的是要提出一個能在彩色的影像中,能夠真正有效的分割出人臉的方法,之後可建立人臉資料庫的運用。我們所提出人臉擷取的方法,不同於一些著重在人臉膚色的分割技術。而是以一個新的邊緣偵測技術為基礎,再從邊緣偵測的影像中,完成人臉的區域成長,最後再做人臉的特徵比對,檢查是否為人臉部分。這樣的人臉偵測技術,可在較複雜的背景環境下,或是在膚色分佈的背景,也能分割出人臉部分。
我們所提出人臉擷取的技術,分為三大部分。 第一部分:先以本論文所提出的,一種加強式的邊緣偵測技術,來得到一個較完整的邊緣偵測為基礎。 第二部分:再用離散餘弦轉換(Discrete Cosine Transform)方式來偵測膚色大概的分佈範圍。 第三部分:人臉特徵的偵測和擷取的方法。關於人臉的偵測過程,在處理的程序上較為複雜。其目的就是要能更精確的判斷人臉的位置。而且大部分在影像的處理過程,都是先將彩色影像轉換為灰階影像來處理。這篇論文研究的主要目的,是要提供一種方法,能在較複雜的背景環境下,即使是與近似膚色相連的背景環境下,也能夠正確的取出人臉,作為人臉資料庫,然後可以提供各種不同的應用。

The thesis proposed a novel color image face extraction that can be applied to establish human face database. The paper addressed a new Edge Detection technique; with this edge detection, we could achieve a region growing of human face, then the new facial feature detection method is used to generate the candidate of face. Therefore, the proposed method can be used to face extraction under a complex background, even the background has similar color of skin.
The proposed technique has three steps, as 1)An Enhanced Edge Detection which can get a more integral Edge Detection, and the result will be used to be a base of face extraction. 2)Use DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform)approach to detect skin color distribution in an image. 3)The method of feature detection and extraction of human face. Regarding these processes of the face extraction, its complete procedure is complex, the purpose is that we could get a more accurate Face extraction. Besides, most of the papers concerning face extraction, their method is to alter images into gray level from color space. Eventually, the purpose of the proposed paper is to develop a technique to identify a face from a complex image, which can support different application in different area.
