工業設計師的專業,長期以來受企業營利導向、刺激消費的趨勢所影響,所引發的社會性議題逐漸受到重視,如生態破壞、環境汙染、社會價值扭曲,同時引發有識之士對於設計師角色的反省,並從社會設計的角度,探討設計相關議題,其中最具代表性的觀念來自於2010年在日本舉行聯合國生物多樣性公約會議上通過的里山倡議。里山倡議的願景目標是朝向社會與自然共生的理想,達成人類與自然和平共存的社會環境。本研究從里山倡議的觀點,以國家重要聚落望安花宅為研究場域,進行社會設計發展趨勢下,設計師角色的探討。
台灣擁有為數眾多,具有豐富人文歷史背景的離島。望安花宅聚落具有台灣開拓史的重要意義與觀光資產,成為2010年文建會指定第一個國家重要聚落。長久以來聚落與其他偏鄉地區同樣面對人口外流、住民老化、及缺乏就業機會等問題。
誠如里山倡議提出,聚落活化必須在當地關鍵能源與生活模式建立永續循環關係。早期離島居民生活大量依靠在地取材以獲得生活所需燃料,隨著石化能源引進,電力普及的時代到來,到如今全球開始提倡永續、環保等議題,過往就地取材的生活模式,在現在可是優質的綠色生活型態。早期引進良好生質燃料-銀合歡,在傳統生活型態消逝,石化燃料的使用,無人看管情況下,四處生長蔓延,成為官方與居民費盡心思、急欲除之而後快的物種。
本研究期望從里山思維的觀點,發覺先民對於燃料能源的生活智慧,將如此上等的生質燃料,透過設計力量導入,連結當地文化脈絡,產生未來聚落活化的能源提案,並滿足現代生活模式的需求。,研究過程,運用田野調查法、深入訪談法以及設計實務之驗證,探討銀合歡植栽在材料、燃料、原料三方面,發展生活提案之可能性,預期研究成果如下:
(1.) 探討設計師角色的轉變-在社會設計趨勢下,設計師的觀念需要改變,出發點不再以盈利為導向,而是生活存續為目標。
(2.) 從傳統生活智慧中發展生活提案的可能性-過往設計產品所使用資源僅僅是只用於單一的功能,現在設計師應將資源使用率提高,開發多面向使用,以達到資源循環利用。

Social issues triggered by the professionalism of industrial designers have gradually been received with attention as they have for long been affected by the trend of profit-oriented enterprise as well as the trend stimulated by consumption, such as ecological damage, environmental pollution, distortion of social values. At the same time, it has also aroused people of insight to reflect about the role-play of designers, and investigate design-related issues from the perspective of social design. Among them, the most representative of which comes from Satoyama Initiative that was adopted at the 2010 United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) held in Japan. The vision of Satoyama Initiative is to achieve the ideal of symbiosis between society and nature, and achieve the social environment in which humans and nature coexist peacefully. This study would, from the perspective of the Lishan Initiative, explore the role-play of designers under the trend of social design development based on the important national settlement as Wangan Huazhai Settlement to be its field of research.

Taiwan is given with a large number of outlying islands with rich cultural and historical backgrounds. As for Wangan Huazhai Settlement, it is found with the important meaning and tourism assets of Taiwan in terms of its pioneering history, and becomes the first important national settlement designated in 2010 by the Council Cultural Construction. For a long time, the settlements have, like other remote areas, faced the problems of outflow of population, aging inhabitants, and lack of employment opportunities

Satoyama Initiative proposes that settlement revitalization must establish a perpetual cyclical relationship between crucial energy and life style locally. In the early days, the residents of the outlying islands relied heavily on local materials to obtain fuel needed for life. With the introduction of petrochemical energy and the coming of power popularization to what we advocate nowadays worldwide with issues as sustainability, and environmental protection and others, the life style in the past making use of what we had locally has now shifted to that of quality green life style. As for in the early days, we had introduced favorable biofuel - Leucaena, which has grown far and wide with great proliferation left unattended in view of the disappearance of traditional life style as well as the expanding use of fossil fuels. As such, the plant has now become the species that the official and residents have exhausted their souls and minds to get rid of.

This study hopes to deliberate from the perspective of Satoyama mindset and discover the wisdom of life from ancestors regarding fuel energy, so that we can have such top-notch biofuel link up with local cultural network introduced through design power so as to render energy proposal for settlement revitalization for the future and accommodate to the needs of modern life style. During the process of research, we have employed field investigation, in-depth interview, and verification of design practice to look into the three aspects of materials, fuel, and raw material regarding Leucaena in order to explore the possibility of putting together a life proposal. The research results anticipated are found as follows:
(1). Explore the transformation of designer's role - under the trend of social design, the concept of designer has to be changed so that their starting point is no longer profit-oriented, but continuation of life as the goal.

(2). The possibility of putting together a life proposal from the wisdom of traditional life -in the past, resources used on products design are only utilized for a single function. Now, designers should increase resource utilization as they develop multi-faceted utility in order to achieve resource recycling.
