In Taiwan, the government is promoting six emerging industries, one of which is the medical care industry and look forward to information and communications technology industry as the core competitiveness to promote the six emerging industries. Health care services include the six dimensions of long-term care, health care, international and cross-strait medicine, intelligent, medical, and health promotion. It hopes the cloud concept can integrate the six emerging industries in the future.
Taiwan is confronted with issues resulting from an aging society and low birth rate; thus, there are numerous issues relating to long-term care, living arrangements, and campus security issues. The recent application of wireless sensor network (WSN) technology has become a hot issue. This study is to explore the wireless sensor network-based applications in medical information management and research, and to propose a four case studies include wireless sensor networks, intelligent agent, and user interface IT application architecture ─ WSAI, medical institutions in the future for wireless sensor networks into application of the reference.
In this study, according to the case hospital observation was the result of the application of wireless sensor networks is divided into three parts, namely: (1) identity recognition, (2) signals a sense of measured and (3) real-time positioning system. In the part of intelligent agents, we summed the seven agent types, namely: (1) knowledge acquisition agent, (2) decision making agent, (3) Alarm release agent, (4) Situation Monitor agent, (5) signal collect agent, (6) Enquiry agent, (7) User interface agent, and (8) Data collection agents. Sorted out in the user interface part of the three interface modes are (1) General dialog, (2) 2D dynamic interface and (3) 3D dynamic interface. Preliminary results obtained in this study are: (1) the use of positioning technology to reduce the wireless sensor network distribution costs, (2) to characteristics of multimedia technology, media-rich information can be delivered effectively and get better communication effectiveness, (3) signal collection can provide clinical decision making and may increase aid to judge information, (4) intelligent agents to automate repetitive routine work, lower labor costs, (5) the use of decision support assistance, can provide first line health care-related decision-making reference.
