Background and purpose: The elderly population (at 65 years old or more) was 252.8 million of 2011 in Taiwan, and the proportion of the elderly population was 10.8% reached the World Health Organization (WHO) definition of the aging society. And to the changing structure of population and family, daycare service developed for the elders. We have known about the benefits of participating in day care centers, but we cannot know whether the benefit due to personality traits, or whether because of their own personality traits lead to the different benefits derived from feelings. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the quality of life situation of elderly in day-care center and to explore the effect of personality on quality of life of elderly in Daycare center. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study using a structured questionnaire about personality and quality of life. The five personality traits measured by using the questionnaire that G.Sucier developed; and using the World Health Organization Quality of Life Questionnaire Taiwan version(WHOQOL-BREF) to measure the quality of life. Samples are 52 elders from day care centers from south of Chia Yi city are 60 years old or older. Results: Results indicated as follows: (1) The quality of life of elderly in day-care center respective fields a certain level. The physical domain scores 14.14 ± 2.59, the psychological domain scores 14.63 ± 2.71, social domain scores 14.88 ± 2.73, environmental domain scores 15.31 ± 2.07, and overall the quality of life score is 14.24 ± 3.07; (2) the personal property for the impact of the quality of life, such as age (r= -0.294, p <0.05) and the quality of life of the physiological context of the significant negative correlation, living arrangement (t = -2.80p <0.05; t = -2.37, p <0.05) and the physical and psychological QOL with significant differences, whether living with their children (t = -2.25, p <0.05) in the psychological and social QOL with a significant difference and the educational level (F = 3.82, p <0.05) are significant different to environmental QOL. (3) All personality traits with significant impact on quality of life. Extraversion can effectively predict the psychological quality of life. Agreeableness can effectively predict the physical, psychological and social quality of life. Conscientiousness can effectively predict the physical, psychological, social, environmental and general quality of life. Openness can effectively predict the physical, psychological, social and environmental quality of life. Neuroticism can effectively predict the physical, psychological, social, environmental and general quality of life. Conclusion: The quality of life of elderly in day care centers scores to 14 points, with the environmental quality of life feel best, followed by the social domain. Under the control of personal property, found that the personality trait such as extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness personality traits can be predicted that all aspects of quality of life. And we can find the most closely related to quality of life for the agreeableness and Neuroticism, followed by an openness personality and should therefore be different manifestations of a variety of personality traits, designed for different activities or measures to enhance their quality of life feelings.
