The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare published data concerning the living period of 2009. Compared with all other periods of divorce demography, Late-life divorce is an increasing trend for splitting up especially for marriages lasting more than 20 years. The divorce rate becomes higher for people living together more than 20 years. The Japanese government enacted a law of retirement pension in April 2007, this new law has had the effect to cause late-life divorce because women can receive more money than men in this pension system following divorce. The result of this evidence is that women want to get rid of their home. The relationship of the married couple was changed by retirement pension system. The newspaper Yomiuri Shinbun often uses this information to explain this phenomenon. Public concern about the retirement pension issue is due to late-life divorce, readers of the newspaper are able to read articles that relate the enactment of the law to the increasing trend of divorce. According to the news report this research is based on family consciousness which has been changed by late-life divorce. The news has been split 4 main categories. Most of the categories are about the relationship of married couples. The newspaper Yomiuri Shinbun appears to be sending a message to their readers by reporting about late–life divorce and emphasis concerning the relationship of married couples is very important. After analyzing these 4 categories in newspapers in previous years it appears that women want to divorce and men play a role similar to self-reflection. The men then begin to notice how happy their wife is and her every move. The relationship of married couples is changing as a result. The newspaper reports about the most common types of late-life marriage which is the life version, the society version, and the local version. In different versions the attitude of late-life divorce is different. Some of the versions are generally accepted but some of them are not. Women in the life version all want to divorce or be divorced already. Men are always coming from a local version. The late-life divorce seems interesting as each different version is specific for their readers considering a specific gender.
