An ecological tourism that uses natural environment has been the desirable business model for many tribes in Taiwan. However, the success of this model requires coordination and assistance from various parties in practice. Therefore, this research aims to study the practicality of capitalizing on Formosa Sika Deer to develop ecological tourism in Sheding Village within Kenting National Park. Though fieldwork and in-depth interviews, this research has established that the advantages are the rich natural resources in Sheding Village, the detailed cultural and historical documentation about the village, and the success of the restoration plan of Formosa Sika Deer. Therefore, it is highly likely to develop a similar business model to Nara Park in Japan provided the development can combine available resources in the vicinity of Sheding Village. Nevertheless, the success will also need to depend on adequately communicating the notion of ecology and environmental protection to the villagers and managing the potential damage to agricultural crops as well as the relationship with local farmers.
