The foamed metal, that is, metal having a plurality of randomly dispersed closed cells throughout a metal matrix, have recently attracted many attentions for their potential on many applications including acoustic absorption, vibration isolation, low thermal conduction, fire isolation, electricity and magnetism shielding, etc. On the production of foamed metal, a preferred method is the gas forming process which uses a heat decomposable foaming agent to generate the gas to foam the cells. In this study, the gas forming process used in a variety of commercial aluminum alloys and scrap aluminum alloys was examined. The controlling factors for generate the gas to foam the cells.
