全球資訊網 (World Wide Web, WWW) 就像一個巨大的電子圖書館,它含有許多資訊。但是因為它的巨大與多變,使得使用者很難在上面找到他所想要的資訊。雖然現在已經有許多搜尋引擎 (Search Engines) 可以幫助使用者在全球資訊網上尋找資料。但是這些搜尋引擎仍然有許多缺點,例如:涵蓋的不足,沒有做語意或內容上的比對…等等。在這篇論文中,我們將利用本體論的觀念整合全球資訊網上的資源,並且提供一個基與本體語言之資訊搜集代理人的架構,使用系統設計著所提供的本體語言去幫助使用者在網路上搜集資訊。因為有本體語言的幫助,資訊搜集代理人可以先去尋找網路上準確度較高的資訊源。如果準確度較高的資訊源沒辦法得到滿意的答案,資訊搜集代理人可依本體語言的定義,再去尋找回傳較多的資訊源。另外本體語言也可當作一個較好的查詢語言。當使用者使用本體語言來表達他的查詢時,可減少他和資訊搜集代理人之間的認知錯誤。此基與本體語言之資訊搜集代理人的架構還會整合五個元件:計劃 (Planning)、普遍搜尋 (General Search)、特殊領域搜尋 (Special Domain Search)、資訊擷取 (Information Extraction) 和資訊整合 (Information Integration)。特殊領域搜尋會有較高的準確性,普遍搜尋會有較高的回傳率。資訊擷取依文件類型可以選取使用個轉換器 (Wrapper) 來做轉換或是分析器 (Parser) 來做文件分析。資訊整合也可分為兩部分,一種是基礎整合 (Ground Integration)和抽象整合 (Abstract Integration)。
