由於資料庫管理系統龐大的儲存能力與精確且快速的處理速度，資料得以大規模地存入資料庫，使得資料庫的應用日漸普及，資料庫應用程式也因應而生。隨著資料庫愈來愈被廣泛使用，資料庫應用的軟體也愈來愈走向大型與複雜化，軟體間的競爭也提高許多，因此軟體開發的速度也得加快、不斷更新，而且品質要更好。
且自從Internet興起後，加上電子商務的出現，造成需求變更的速度加快，然而以往軟體開發的方式，是否能因應需求快速改變的環境，程式修改造成資料庫的變動，資料庫無法與應用程式完全契合，且當程式規模愈來愈龐大，開發人數眾多，長時間維護下新舊人員不斷更換，要怎樣維持軟體的開發與維護，達到最有效率的成果？
本研究嘗試從資料庫應用程式最基礎的來源資料－程式原始碼中擷取出影響資料庫資料異動的操作資訊，在大量的程式原始碼中，探勘出程式原始碼與這些資料操作之間關聯的資訊，並以視覺化的主題地圖的方式呈現其間的關係，有助於程式開發及測試人員更快速地了解資料庫應用程式與資料庫綱要之間的關係，達成高效率、高品質、低成本的軟體發展目標。
