Because of design variety on Mold Steels, the machining time fluctuates a lot and not easily to be standardized, thus the machining process on Mold Steel is more difficult and complex than general machined parts. This research used Taguchi Methods to optimize the milling production parameters of Mold Steels to have the best surface roughness. The results show that the factors affecting the surface roughness in order of importance are the material of cutters, cooling method, cutting depth, Spindle speed and Cutting feed. As to S/N, the most significant factor is material of cutters, and then following cooling method, spindle speed cutting depth, and cutting feed. The optimal parameters are cooling method: air, Spindle speed: 6,500(rpm/min), cutting feed: 1,200(mm/min), cutting depth: 0.03mm, cutter: T009291 and these combination can improve the surface roughness from 1.4 to 0.28.
