In order to increase the reliability and to have a more cost-effective ISI (In-Service Inspection) strategy in nuclear power plants, the concept of RBI (Risk-Based Inspection) has been studied for years in the United States of America as well as other foreign countries. Fruitful results have been obtained. The major purpose of the present study is to introduce the concept of RBI and to learn the feasibility of application of RBI in the nation. Aside from collection of the world-wide information and experiences learned by other developed countries, the application of techniques such as risk ranking, FMECA (Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis), NDE (Non-Destructive Evaluation) Reliability and system reliability analysis to the in-service inspection of nuclear power plants will specially be emphasized in the present study. The final purpose of the present study is to examine the possible application of RBI to the nation's nuclear power plants.
