This research aims to discuss Gu,Yuanqing and his collectanea, (Yang shan)Gu shi wen fang xiao shuo, Gu shi (Ming zhao) Si shi jia xiao shuo, during Zhengde (1506-1521) and Jiajing (1522-1566) Periods of Ming Dynasty. Via sorting out the notes, bibliographies and anthologies, we are able to figure out the history of editing and handing down of Gu shi wen fang xiao shuo. We can also figure out to what level readers understand the two Gu,Yuanqing’s collectanea by analyzing famous collectors’ evaluations and relevant works. In addition, we record Gu shi wen fang xiao shuo based on the current collection we see, and infer the possibilities between Gu shi wen fang xiao shuo and Si shi jia xiao shuo published by Yuan,jiong. Therefore we may clarify the invisible changes in the process of publishing.Furthermore, the connections among Gu,Yuanqing’s collectanea, Yuan,Jiong’s Qian, Guang, Hou Si shi jia xiao shuo, Zi wu and Xiao shuo lei bian, will be discussed in this dissertation, as well as digging into the potential reasons of how the editing of Gu shi (Ming zhao) Si shi jia xiao shuo was affected by the relationship between Gu shi (Ming zhao) Si shi jia xiao shuo and Xiao shuo lei bian, and the selections of Xia wai za zu and Tai hu xin lu’s subdirectories. Finally, we will inspect the history of Guang si shi jia xiao shuo and the status of current collection in Mainland China, and discuss the intentions and the effects of Gu,Yuanqing’s Guang si shi jia xiao shuo.
