窗是建築物之眼，為室內空間帶來空氣與光線，透過敞開之窗望向遠方，甚至能洗滌人類心靈。自古以來，窗戶在歷代藝術家的筆下，只是扮演著陪襯的角色，從龐貝壁畫、中世紀、文藝復興到近代，它都鮮少成為繪畫的主題。一直要到十九世紀初的浪漫主義時期，窗戶才開始佔據畫面正中央的位置或大部份面積，真正成為繪畫中的主角或主要描繪對象，此情形尤以德國最具代表性。因此本論文企圖透過對於十九世紀德國窗景作品的研究，深入探討其獨特的藝術特徵與美學意涵，以彰顯其在藝術史的重要意義。作為一主題式之研究，本論文精選從浪漫主義時期到寫實主義時期的三十四件窗景畫，將其放在德國文化史的發展脈絡中檢視，再結合藝術家生命歷程的個別差異作為深入探索作品的重要依據。研究中除了爬梳日耳曼地區的自然崇拜、宗教信仰傳統之外，亦考察新哥德主義、唯心主義哲學等時代思潮，並將之連結至十九世紀的社會背景、經濟環境、政治變遷，務能透徹地全面解析十九世紀德國窗景作品的重要性與藝術價值。

Windows are the eyes of the building, bringing air and light to the interior space, guiding into the distance, and even cleansing the human mind. Since ancient times, windows have been the perfect foil in artists’ works. From Pompeii, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance to modern times, they were rarely the subjects of the painting. Until the early 19th century, the windows began to occupy the center of the picture and became the protagonist or main object in the paintings, especially in Germany. Therefore, the thesis attempts, through the study of German window paintings, to explore their artistic features, aesthetic implications and to highlight their significance in art history. As a thematic study, the thesis has selected thirty-four window paintings from Romanticism to Realism, and considers it in the development context of the German culture history, then combines the individual differences of artists’ careers as an important basis for in-depth exploration of their works. In addition to the natural worship and religious belief traditions in the German region, the study also examines the trends of thought, such as neo-Gothicism and Idealism philosophy, and links it to the social background, economic environment, and political changes, so as to demonstrate thoroughly and comprehensively the artistic value of the German window paintings in the 19th century.
