This thesis analyses and constructs the morphological struc- ture of traditional street houses in Lukang through the applicatin of shape grammar. A literary review on shape grammar and tranditional street-houses is presented in this research. Twenty-two diffrent sizes of traitional street-houses'' plans in Lukang are collected. Based on the sixteen 〝tan-kai-chean〞(單 開間) street-houses'' plans, the grammar of traitional street- houses in Lukang is being established . The grammar contains four stages of rule schemata. The frist stage(A)of the grammar is a set of rule schemata of labelled symbols that directs rule schemata in other stages to a specific location, generating and connecting spaces. Rule schemata in the secand stage(B)generate the spaces of the plans. These spaces are being linked and connected in the third stage(C). Finally, the last stage(D)terminates the derivation process of the grammar. Also this thesis trys to set up a section grammar for the tranditional street-houses in Lukang. The grammar not only sets up the principles of traditional street-houses in Lukang, and generates plans of same morphlogical structure, it also provides a creative basis for designers.
