In a constantly changing environment, supply chain management (SCM) has become an important strategy for firms to maintain competitiveness. Due to increasing disintegration of industry supply chains, supply chain collaboration is considered as an important means for value creation in supply chains. Nevertheless, it is no easy task to establish and maintain collaboration relationships in supply chains. Particularly, supply chain members usually have to undertake the risk of higher transaction costs and collaboration failure if they lack long–term exchange experience or partnership relationship before. Therefore, this study attempts to investigate the factors that can facilitate supply chain collaboration between firms. Based on resource dependence theory, this study explores the impacts of exercise of buyer power on the extent of supply chain collaboration and supply chain agility between supply chain partners. The results suggest that exercise of non-mediated power by buyers has significant positive effect on supply chain collaboration. The results also suggest that the extent of information sharing and incentive alignment between supply chain partners positively influence supplier’s supply chain agility.
