After the impact of financial crisis gradually diminishes, the profitability of Taiwanese banks has kept increasing. This thesis studies the factors that affect the return on asset of Taiwanese banks in the period of 2010 to 2014. It finds that non-performing loans, interest spread, credit card loans, time deposits and personnel expenses have a negative impact on bank’s profits, while financial derivatives transactions and businesses from offshore branches have a positive impact. Interestingly, loans to corporations have a positive impact on the profitability of small banks, and have a negative impact on the profitability of large banks. For Taiwanese banks, the importance of the businesses with negative influences on profits is reduced, while the importance of the businesses with positive influences on profits is increased during the period of 2010 to 2014. As a result, they generate higher profits.
