本文旨在探討史帝文生所著之《化身博士》一書中所隱含的當代性隱私與逾越之議題。以維多利亞時期對於性色的關切作為本論文的論述框架，第一章所探討的議題為自慰。藉由傑基爾在研究室中的長期獨處所透漏的隱私空間運用，以及海德和傑基爾的外貌差異，和維多利亞人們對於手碰觸生殖器的限制，從而引導出當代如何想像和再現自慰所造成的後果，另外也由厄特森的日常行為來闡述當代人們如何防止手淫。第二章所探討的議題為童妓和娼妓。藉由探討當代的仕紳階級是利用自身的財富的方式，以及當時醫生在童妓交易中所扮演的角色，來引導出維多利亞晚期的倫敦其東西區之間財富和治安上的巨大差異。而倫敦東西區的這種差異間接地導致了當時仕紳對娼妓和童妓施展的肢體殘暴。第三章探討當時男妓及同性性慾取向之相關議題。文本中海德的男妓身分透漏了跨階級同性戀關係的意涵。不僅如此，海德的居住地、名字、及其形變皆透漏了當時同性性慾取向及陽具的勃起之再現。另外，海德的出現也誘發了厄特森對傑基爾的同性性慾取向。

The aim of this thesis is to discuss issues about contemporary sexual privacy and transgression in Robert Louis Stevenson's Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. With the Victorian concerns of private and transgressive sexuality as the framework of this thesis, chapter 1 discusses issues about masturbation. It includes analyses of the private space of Jekyll's laboratory during his seclusion, the physical differences of Jekyll and Hyde, and contemporary strict regulation to prevent hands from touching sexual organs. Moreover, Utterson's daily demeanor shows the way late-Victorian people prevented masturbation. Chapter 2 discusses the issues about contemporary prostitution, especially child prostitution. By pointing out the ways contemporary flâneurs used their wealth and the role physicians played in transactions for child prostitutes, the thesis further indicates the huge difference between the two parts of London, the East End and West End, in terms of wealth and public security in the late Victorian era. This difference indirectly led to physical cruelty from contemporary flâneurs toward prostitutes and child prostitutes. Chapter 3 discusses issues of contemporary male homosexual prostitution and homosexuality. In the text, Hyde, as a male homosexual prostitute, implies the late Victorian tendency toward cross-class sexual liaisons. Moreover, Hyde's residence, name, and metamorphosis are suggestive of contemporary homosexuality and of the erection of a phallus. Furthermore, Hyde's appearance also triggers Utterson's homosexual reaction toward Jekyll.
