本論文主要係針對台灣涼臺殖民地樣式建築從清末歐美洋人引進台灣之後 ，各種在臺不同的社群人士對此建築樣式所抱持的心態、意義及對台灣的影響 。同時並由文獻資料及實際的調查下對此樣式特徵、分佈等作一討論，並與其他地區的涼臺殖民地樣式建築作一比較。冀能對涼臺在台灣發展過程作一清晰描繪。
本論文即根據此四大不同的社群人群所居住的涼臺殖民地樣式建築作為主要論述的架構，並將內容摘述如下：
第一章 緒論
研究動機、目的，研究背景、範圍、內容，研究架構、方法。以及對 涼臺殖民地樣式的起源、定義、分佈、特徵等歷史背景的說明。
第二章 通商口岸外國人居住區及洋務運動的涼臺殖民地樣式建築
藉由外國人居住區及洋務運動中洋人所建的各類涼臺殖民地樣式建築作一討論。
第三章 教會設施的涼臺殖民地樣式建築
討論外教傳入、各類教會建築與涼臺殖民地樣式的關係。
第四章 涼臺殖民地樣式建築對日治官方建築的影響
討論日治官方建築體系及與涼臺殖民地樣式的關係。
第五章 涼臺殖民地樣式對本地民間住宅的影響
討論民間建築與涼臺殖民地樣式的關係。
第六董 結論
藉由以上各章的討論作一歸納與分析。

This research intends to know the attitude, meanings and the influence of different groups of people toward Veranda Colonial Style Architecture introduced by European and American from Chin dynasty in Taiwan.
By the way, it is made to discuss the distinctive features and the spread of Veranda Colonial Architecture according to the record literature and actual investigation as well as compared with other regions. It would like to clear describe about the development of Veranda Colonial Style Architecture in Taiwan.
According to the dwelling by the four groups of people, it became the frame of this research. The contents of this research include:
Chapter 1 Introduction
It gave the subject, scope, objects, background, contents and methods of this research, as well as the background exposition of Veranda Colonial Style Architecture.
Chapter 2 The Veranda Colonial Style Architecture of the foreign settlements from the founding of cities and foreign affairs movement
To discuss the different kinds of buildings from above.
Chapter 3 The Veranda Colonial Style Architecture of the missionary
