In this paper, we investigate the impacts of network externalities and market trans-
parencies on duopolistic competition in the framework of the Hotelling model. The
result shows that a stronger degree of positive network externalities weakens both
equilibrium prices and profits. We also find that more market transparencies means
more competition in the market, and that market transparencies lower the equilib-
rium prices and profits as well. However, regrading in the study of the relationship
between market transparency and product differentiation, we obtain a finding com-
pared to the results of the Schultz’s model (2004): the products are less differentiated
when the market is highly or barely transparent, in contrast, the products are more
differentiated when the market is half transparentized.
