In the highly competitive sports arena of today, the training relationship between trainee and trainer is crucial to good performance. The record -breaking wins of Mainland China''''''''s 馬 家 athletes have sparked interest in the old system of Chinese Motor-Apprentice system. Even in Taiwan, athletes such as王惠 珍, 徐佩菁 are under this system, due to the freedoms it provides. But the Mentor-Apprenticeship system isn''''''''t a legitimate format, therefore I propose a new format to improve on the weak points of 3 level coach training and raising the efficiency of training. This study utilizes questionnaire survey, literature survey, & in depth interview, to reveal the obstacles and dilemmas facing coaches & athletes under the current system. Results are as follows : 1. Kuo-shu athletes & coaches favor the M-A system of training. 2. Most Kuo-shu athletes & coaches favor apprenticeship and the ceremonies and responsibilities that it entails. 3. Individual sports athletes & coaches are receptive towards the M-A system. 4. Team sports athletes & coaches are more receptive to school & national team training formats. 5. The longer one has learned martial arts the people favor the M-A system. 6. National team athletes favor the M-A system. In Short, the Mentor- Apprenticeship system is built on a relationship of mutual understanding and not involuntary obedience. It is evolved over a long period of training and interaction. Because both parties are willing to devote themselves to work towards a common goal, they develop a sense of teamwork. It is suitable for individual & subjective sports. But there must be a clear understanding toward financial arrangements, to prevent souring of the relationship and misunderstanding.
