This study examines effects of high-intensity circuit training on cardiovascular risk factors and aerobic capacity in middle-aged adults. The HICT method was selected for this study. 21 volunteers who did not have any HICT experience, BMI was 23-30 kg/m², age from 40 to 65 years old were recruited in this study. Then they were divided into experimental group (n=11) and control group (n=10) depending on their fat mass percentage. Experimental group subjects join a 12-week HICT training program, which met for three days per week. Both groups completed the pre-test and post-test of cardiovascular risk factors and aerobic capacity including body composition, blood pressure, blood profiles and VO2max. All data were analyzed by two-way mixed design ANOVA at the end of the 12-week period to examine the interaction between group and time factors, that showed significant differences in waist circumference (p=.001), diastolic blood pressure (p=.003), and VO2max (p=.002). Experimental group showed a significant improvement of waist circumference (p=.010) and VO2max (p=.000), control group showed a significant difference in waist circumference and diastolic blood pressure. Compared the post-test data between two groups, there was significant difference in VO2max (p=.021). In conclusion, the 12-week HICT program could significantly reduce the waist circumference in middle-aged adults, and enhance their aerobic capacity. This study suggests HICT may serve as one part of the community health promotion programs.
