In recent years, work stress and burnout become an important issue, particular in high-tech Company. Changing in work patterns, development of cerebrovascular and heart disease (commonly called burnout), long working hours and too much pressure among workers may cause chronic fatigue symptoms of anxiety, irritability, unable to relive fatigue, and high blood pressure. Many organs functioning of the body are sympathetic, parasympathetic nervous system under the final equilibrium state of the interaction, such as heartbeat, digestion, urination and glycogen conversion. Heart rate variability (HRV) can be used to assess the overall activity of the autonomic nervous system. The study purpose was 1) to know occupational fatigue general view of the tested group; 2) to identify the high-risk groups and 3) to explore the relation between occupational fatigue and HRV. We performed proportional stratified random sampling and finally recruited 120 subjects. We collected personal information from questionnaire and “Occupational Fatigue inventory”, and measure the autonomic nervous system-related data by the novel wrist physiological monitor, include HRV, LF (Low Frequency Power), HF (High Frequency Power ) and LF/HF. We performed chi-square and t tests to describe the distribution of demographic, health status, the occupational fatigue inventory and HRV and applied logistic regression to access the relation between occupational fatigue inventory and HRV adjustment for possible confounding factors using SPSS 17.0 Chinese version. The results show that subject was 20-25 years old, personal business heavy overtime, had past medical history, recently feeling unwell have higher "personal fatigue”. Subject with master''s degree, indirect staff, often the day shift, and personal business heavy overtime had higher "overwork investment”. Significant associations between past medical history and recently feeling unwell and “work fatigue”. There is a positive association between HRV and job seniority. LF, HF, and LF/HF were significantly correlated with job category. "Work over commitment" was related to LF/HF among men. "Personal fatigue" and "work over commitment" were also associated with HRV among women. Our findings suggest that measurement of HRV can be applied in occupational setting to access the fatigue. It not only allows administrators to quickly select the colleagues who needs health care, but also provides timely of appropriate thereby promoting the health of worker.
