Indonesia ranks third in the world as an exporter of dried cassava; following Thailand and Vietnam. Globally, Indonesia was among the top four producers of dried cassava; however, between 2000 and 2015, only an average of 0.63% of the total production was exported, and Indonesia still needs to improve the competitiveness performance in the dried cassava market. The top three importing nation of dried cassava from Indonesia are Malaysia, China, and Republic of Korea. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the comparative and competitiveness advantage of Indonesia in the world dried cassava market.
Using data from United Nations Comtrade and Food Agriculture Organization, the major indicators employed include: Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), Comparative Export Performance (CEP), Market Share Index (MSI), and Constant Market Share (CMS). Based on result of Market Share Index (MSI), Indonesia succeeded in taking 66.86 % the market position in Malaysia. Thailand dominated in China market with 71.16% of the market and Vietnam dominated the Republic of Korea market with 71.74%. Comparative advantage of dried cassava of Indonesia was analyzed by using the Comparative Export Performance (CEP). It founded that Indonesia in the period from 2000 until 2015 has an average value of about 0.75, which indicated that the country concerned did not have the relative superiority among the other competitor countries in the world.
This study expects dried cassava can be one of the major export commodities for Indonesia, so the dried cassava export from Indonesia can be sustained.
