1917年俄國十月革命推翻了封建制度，身處戰亂的謝爾蓋‧瓦西里耶維奇‧拉赫瑪尼諾夫(Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff, 1873-1943)，離開了俄羅斯至美國，從此再也沒有回到祖國。身處世紀交界的拉赫瑪尼諾夫，受到柴可夫斯基(Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, 1840-1893)、林姆斯基-高沙可夫(Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, 1844-1908)等俄羅斯作曲家們的影響，延續著前輩們留下的浪漫風情，作品中充斥著俄羅斯旋律和自己獨有的音樂特色。因緣際會下拉赫瑪尼諾夫聽取小提琴家克萊斯勒(Fritz Kreisler, 1875-1962)的建議，1931年完成了《柯瑞里主題變奏曲》(Variations on a Theme of Corelli, Op. 42)，成為他晚期生涯中具代表性的作品之一。
本論文主要以探討拉赫瑪尼諾夫《柯瑞里主題變奏曲》的樂曲分析與演奏詮釋，並介紹拉赫瑪尼諾夫生平以及寫作風格。本論文共分五章：第壹章緒論，介紹研究動機以及研究範圍與方法。第貳章為拉赫瑪尼諾夫生平以及創作分期。第參章為拉赫瑪尼諾夫樂曲中使用的創作技法。第肆章為《柯瑞里主題變奏曲》樂曲分析與演奏詮釋。第伍章為結論，總結此曲的研究心得。

The October Revolution in Russia in 1917 overthrew feudalism. Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff (1873-1943), who suffered as a result of the war, left Russia and went to America. He never returned to Russia. As a composer whose career occurred in both the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Rachmaninoff was influenced by such Russian composers as Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844-1908). By continuing romanticism inherited from the elder composers, Rachmaninoff combined Russian melody and his own musical traits. On one occasion, Rachmaninoff accepted the suggestion of Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962) to compose the Variations on a Theme of Corelli, Op. 42 in 1931. This work became a representative piece of his late style.
This thesis is a discussion and analysis of the Variations on a Theme of Corelli Op. 42 of Rachmaninoff, looking at both his life and his compositional style. The thesis is consists of five chapters. Chapter One introduces the research topic, motive, and method. Chapter Two examines Rachmaninoff's life and compositional periods. Chapter Three is an analysis of his most commonly used compositional techniques. Chapter Four is an analysis and interpretation of the Variations and its background. Chapter Five is the conclusion of the research.
