鐵花窗－以黑鐵製成、擁抱許多花樣的窗－在日治時期從日本傳入，是台南街道巷弄時常可以看見，人們卻習慣性忽略的美麗，其多樣化的紋樣價值可以表徵著當代的日常與生活美學。

　　本創作研究透過收集台南、台北、老街的鐵花窗紋樣並彙整、分析將紋樣分類成日本文化、幾何、新藝術⋯等類別，與日本傳統的紋樣對照後可瞭解紋樣除了防盜功能、美觀裝飾外，亦可以反映當代的庶民生活、生活美學、流行事物⋯等，而我們現今所看見的鐵花窗，都是30-60年代時所建造出的，反映著那個時代的庶民生活，是那個年代的記憶所在。如今，台灣在西化過程中，環境逐漸邁入高度同質化歷程，什麼紋樣可以表徵、代表台南這個地域？台南獨有的特色文化又是什麼呢？

　　鐵花窗從台南發跡，終將回歸台南，藉由窗光—時光—流轉，反向思考現在台南獨有的特殊文化為何，那些和鐵花窗一樣，不保留就會消失的文化、存在於生活、食衣住行育樂裡的庶民文化，並將蒐集而來的鐵花窗紋樣整理、分析出其五大規則：組成元素、工藝工法、紋樣類別、紋樣排列方式、自身特性，在這些規則下與台南文化結合，創作出屬於台南的紋樣，將其以「單位化—平面化—立體化」三個層面做呈現，表現方式從單位到平面到立體來表現，並使用不同的媒材製作成形，產生一連串研究表現的過程，形成演進歷程。
