Serene Landscape is a state of peaceful mind, in harmony and calmness. The artwork represents the accumulation of the author’s emotions, which have been internalized and transformed into a harmonious and peaceful state of mind. This essay contains six chapters. Chapter one is the introduction, which describes the background and motive for the creation. The author remembers how the natural mountain scenery of his childhood and formative years brought peacefulness to his soul. The motive of the artwork is thus the expression of all chaotic thoughts in the mountain scenes and achieving the peace of mind in calm retrospection. Chapter two is theoretical foundation, which includes the study and analysis of related principles, such as “Chinese horticulture”, “empathy in art” and “art imagery and symbolism”. Chapter three is creative concept and form of expression, which describes the author’s creative concept, inspiration and drafting. Chapter four is method of creation and experimentation. Techniques used are described in detail, including “pattern and texture on metallic surface”, “water transfer printing”, “semi-three-dimensional enamel spray firing”, “tin plate making and constructive welding”, “ceramic slip casting”, “photosensitive corrosion” and “wooden base processing”. Chapter five is artwork description, describing the materials and details used. Chapter six is conclusion, which is the author’s thoughts and expectation. The author hopes to see the reflection of his inner thoughts in the artwork, and that those who see the artwork will feel a connection or resonance that allows for them to find their own natural state of mind.
