In recent years, Taiwan has struggled to keep its working population afloat. The country has been suffering from a quickly ageing society and a growing brain drain, a situation which is coupled with stagnant salaries and imperfect working conditions. While this situation could be remedied by an influx of foreign talent, and the Taiwanese government has been investing in attracting foreign students to pursue their undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Taiwan, the effort made to retain these foreigners after graduation to stay and work in Taiwan is minimal, and many return to their home countries, even if their intention is to join the Taiwanese workforce. Although the law has recently been adapted to ease the restrictions on the employment of foreign talent in Taiwan, the situation is still far from ideal.

The present study uses a qualitative research interview method to gather information about the job opportunities available in Taiwan for foreign graduates from Taiwanese universities. The present study also seeks to investigate the recruitment methods and efforts made to attract and retain foreign graduates. Four respondents considered knowledgeable and representative of different industries with extensive work experience in Taiwan were selected to conduct the interviews. These data analysis led to several findings: (1) the majority of job opportunities for foreigners in Taiwan are in the fields of sales and marketing, without considering the opportunities available in the field of foreign language education; (2) very little effort is being made to attract and retain foreign talent in Taiwan, despite the worsening situation of the national working population; (3) 104 人力銀行 is one of the most commonly used
recruitment methods for employing foreigners in Taiwan, despite being entirely in Chinese and not easily accessible by a significant percentage of foreign talent looking for work in Taiwan.
