A continuous powder coating of the fiber tow was under- taken in this study. The fiber content in the impregnated tow was controlled by the line speed and the opening of the feeding orifice. The UD laminae were fabricated by a hot press. The variables of consolidation cycle were evaluated by the applied pressure, temperature and dwell time with respect to the void content of the laminate. The result showed that, the thickness of spreader was the critical parameter for fiber spreading along with the fiber tension and pressure drop, maximum spreading width of fiber tow was 60 mm, the range of fiber volume fraction could be controlled varying from 20 % to 60 %, an excellent molten PBT powder distribution was obtained from the towpreg. The optimum consolidation cycle is : applied pressure: 5 MPa, applied temperature: 260 ℃ and dwell time is 15 minutes.
