The products of Fiber Reinforced Plastics (FRP) is light weight, high strength,and can protect against climate and corrosion. It has become a very important material and been extensively applied in aerospace,vehicles,industry parts and exercise equipments. The traditional manufacturing of FRP is by hand lay- up which is high cost,long working time and economic inefficient.A new process is by injection molding,in which fiber mat is preplaced in a closed mold and the resin is then pumped into the mold. This kind of promising manufacture process is called Resin Transfer Molding (RTM). In this study, experimental work is carried out to find out the influence of each variable in RTM process.A simple rectangular mold,random fiber mat with vacuum assistance and central gating is used. The mold preheat temperature and injection pressure are taken as the control parameters to fabricate the products. The products are tested by MTS system to analyze its mechanical properties. Influence of process variables on the properties of the products is thus deeply investigated.
