It has always been the target to control the vibration of large and flexible structural systems efficiently. In this thesis, we try to identify and control the composite structure through the aids of distributed piezoelectric sensors and actuators .The distributed piezoelectric sensors can respond to structural oscillation and generate output voltages due to the direct piezoelectric effect. On the other hand, the actuators can induce forces/moments and control the system due to the converse piezoelectric effect. Following the idea of Hwang and Park (1993), a new finite element is designed for the analysis of composite laminated thin plates containing piezoelectric sensors and actuators. In this design, the piezoelectric effects are studied after the pure mechanical analysis of the thin composite laminates. Thus, vasts of computer time will be saved and accuracy can still be preserved.
