In this thesis, a prototype of an interactive database system for video-on-demand is proposed. The system is implemented on a window-based graphical environment. Content-based retrieval of videos is supported. The communication protocol based on message-passing between server and client is presented. Buffer management in client is proposed. By the communication between client and server and the buffer management in client, it becomes possible that users change the playing status of the videos, such as forward and rewind. The design of this interactive video database system model lays the foundation technology for future video-on-demand service.
