Due to advancement of computer technologies, the application of the GIS for utilities to perform the automated mapping and facility management by using the workstation becomes feasible. Therefore,the GIS have become the important trend of distribution automation by integrating the distribution information system for the electric utility. In this paper,the relative structure and facility attribute database of GIS software has been developed.The transformers,switches,feeders and many key customer of TPC distribution system are created with attribute data in GIS system, according to the practical geography position by to street background. The network connectivity trace subroutine has been developed to support various application functions of facility management. Should the system fault occurs, the fault point can be identified very effectively and displayed in the monitor of the GIS system. First, the faulted region has to be isolated. According to the switch current estimated by feeder current and the different load region, the dispatcher''s manual experience and heuristic search method are then applied to decide the service restoration plan. The corresponding message can also be shown on GIS screen (e.g., switching, switch current, load transfer region etc.,) to remind the operators to confirm the proper switching operation proposed. It is concluded that the automated distribution system can be achieved by using the AM/ FM system to enhance the power system reliability and operation efficiency.
